Our reward system improves children's self-esteem

Martial arts are not like team sports because the emphasis is on developing the individual's
self-esteem, not the team’s winning record. The belt system is the key. When kids earn their
belts it gives them a great sense of accomplishment that really improves the way they feel
about themselves.

I initially joined after a 1 month trial membership. My son and I were in a karate class and after meeting Master Ko, I liked his energy and passion. His mastery of multiple martial arts shows in his discipline for teaching them. I was sold and joined to learn hapkido. I wondered if my son Djali would like it too; afterall it was Taekwondo and not Karate. I brought him in, we observed a tentative student (within 15 mins) go from 100% sure that there was no way he could do what his Masters were asking him to do. To watching him be 100% sure he could backflip kick . That at first nervous kid smiled and Djali was sold too.
